    • Characterization of surface microbial community structure and identification of dominant species on the Dazu Thousand-handed and Thousand-eyed Avalokitesvara

    • The gold foil of Qianshou Guanyin in Dazu Rock Carvings has discoloration, cracking and other deterioration phenomena. Experts analyzed the microbial community structure on the surface of the gold foil through high-throughput sequencing technology, and found that the bacterial community is dominated by Firmicutes, Actinomycetes and Proteobacteria, and the fungal community is dominated by Ascomycetes and Mucor. Two dominant fungal strains, Aspergillus variegatus and Mucor fragilis, were successfully identified, suggesting that they may be involved in the corrosion of gold foil through multiple mechanisms.
