中国传统建筑几千年来几乎只传承着一种相似的群体组合方式——庭院或称院落。在阐述了中国传统文化中天人合一的理想生活模式后，从历史和文化的角度分析了庭院对这种生活方式的回应，从而在深层意义上论述了庭院模式的起源与涵义，最后探讨了如何在现代条件下延续和拓展传统庭院的生命力。

During thousands of years

the Chinese traditional architecture has almost followed only one pattern-the courtyard one. In this paper

the ideal living mode of "Tian ren he yi"(unity of the heaven and human beings) is expatiated. Then

the response of courtyard to this living mode is analyzed and the origin and signification of courtyard are discussed. At the end

how to keep and develop the vitality of traditional courtyard in modern times is investigated.
